What Does HVAC Mean?

How Do AC Systems Function?

To circulate the air, it uses supply and return ducts. Specifically, air enters through the vents to reach the ducts. Cooled air is carries through the rest of your home through those supply and return ducts via the return vents. A filter is located in the return air duct to filter the air and prevent contaminants. 

Once the air is drawn in through the system, it cools by being blown over the evaporator coils (filled with refrigerant), allowing the liquid to transform into a gas. After that, the refrigerant is pumped outside to a secondary condenser coil, where it gives out heat and changes back into a liquid.

A pump, also known as a compressor, moves the refrigerant between both coils, altering the pressure so it evaporates or condenses into the indoor coils, removing heat from your home. As a result, your home becomes cooler. 

Eventually, this cool air in your home becomes warmer, which the thermostat detects to make adjustments to system functions. Once the command is given to lower the temperature, the air draws back into the system through the return vents to dehumidify.
